The beautiful death (2019)
silenced bugle with ashes of the names of victims of operations
police and army in Brazil
action traces
The beautiful death, called by the ancient Greeks the kalos thanatos , it involved honors and funeral rites that honored the warrior heroes in order to glorify them and immortalize the inscription of their names in the social memory of the polis. In this sense, the glorious death, its living memory eternalized by the poetic chant of the aedo, was the opposite of oblivion. In this work, I propose the beautiful death as a confrontation between silences : silence as forgetting the names of those who die at the hands of the State, and silence as a tribute to the memory of the names of those who die in the service of the State. The action consists of leaving traces in the exhibition space after the act of silencing a bugle - wind instrument used to perform the silence during funeral honors given to the military - blowing the ashes of the names of victims of police and army operations to the inside the instrument.

traces of action
The beautiful death, called by the ancient Greeks of kalos thanatos, involved honors and funeral rites that honored the warrior heroes with the intention of glorifying them and immortalizing the inscription of their names in the social memory of the polis. In this sense, the glorious death, its living memory immortalized by poetic singing, was the opposite of forgetfulness. In this work I propose the beautiful death as a result of the confrontation between silences: silence as forgetfulness of the names of those who die at the hands of the State, and silence as a tribute to the memory of the names of those who die in the service of the State. The action consists of leaving vestiges in the exhibition space after the act of silencing a bugle - instrument of blow used to execute the call of silence during the funeral honors given to the military - blowing the ashes of the names of the victims of police and army operations to the inside of instrument.
