The "instrument" is composed  by two symbolic objects of torture, the whip and the truncheon, which have in common the grip as an extension of the gesture of abuse of power and which over time has left mnemonic traces of violence on vulnerable bodies. A legacy still cultivated in Brazil today as a State policy  in violent repression, abusive approaches, or as a police practice to punish and obtain confessions.
